Statement of Purpose
The ORTESOL Computer Assisted Language Learning special
interest group is dedicated to exploring issues related
to the use of computers as tools in language teaching
and learning. We serve the ESL profession in Oregon by
identifying best practices, resources and standards related
to CALL and sharing our findings with English language
educators in our region.
Professional Concerns
- To encourage our colleagues to take an interest in
integrating technology into their teaching practices.
- To develop and disseminate a list of resources educators
can use to learn more about CALL.
- To elicit regular newsletter articles from members
related to CALL.
- To identify and/or organize professional development
opportunities related to CALL in the region and disseminate
this information to ORTESOL members.
- To develop an online repository of resources for CALL.
Academic Concerns
- To advocate for increased access to technology resources
for our colleagues and their students.
- To encourage institutions to adopt technology standards
for ESL teachers and students.
- To identify, collect and disseminate CALL resources
for ESL students and their teachers.
Activities may include but are not limited to the
following:
- Maintain a CALL Web site with links to other CALL
resources, lesson plans, articles and professional development
opportunities.
- Organize CALL SIG meetings at annual ORTESOL conferences.
- Develop a regional network of CALL practitioners and
encourage sharing of ideas and resources.
