Position: Tokyo International University of America (TIUA) invites applications for the Director of Academic Programs position in our one-year, study abroad program. This is a 12-month administrative position with faculty status and requires teaching two courses per academic year, in addition to administrative duties. The Director is also expected to work with students, participate in faculty governance, collaborate with campus life and co-curricular specialists within the institution, and collaborate with colleagues in content areas within Willamette University, our sister school on whose campus TIUA is located. The Director reports directly to the Executive Vice President of TIUA.

Appointment & Qualifications: Director of Academic Programs, tenure-track, 12-month position, commencing January 2010. Candidates must have a Master's degree or Ph.D. in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Linguistics, or in a program with equivalent coursework in language teaching to non-native speakers of English. Candidates must also have 5 or more years of full-time teaching experience in higher education as well as 5 or more years of administrative experience in ESL programs at the higher education level. Those who have had experience teaching Japanese learners of English, experience with Japanese universities, and international teaching experience, at the university level will be given strong consideration.

Position Announcement

ESL Instructor, Core Position,  Academic English Studies, Lewis & Clark College, Portland, Oregon.

Effective Dates: Fall Semester, 2009

Responsibilities:

Full-time instructors in the AES are responsible for teaching a minimum of six courses over a 12-month period assigned by the director, in consultation with the AES Curriculum Committee.  All AES core faculty members observe office hours and serve as academic advisors to AES students.  In addition to classroom and advising commitments and committee assignments, instructors are expected to participate in some AES-sponsored student activities, to be committed to professional development, and to contribute to the Lewis & Clark community at large.

Requirements:

1. Master's degree in TESL/TEFL
2. Demonstrated cross-cultural awareness, preferably based on at least two years of overseas experience.
3. Minimum of two years full-time ESL teaching experience in higher education.
4. Working knowledge of a foreign language.
5. Experience in ESL content-based course development.

* Preference will be given to individuals with experience, research, and/or expertise in computer assisted language learning.
